Are You Ready For Some ‘Football’ ?

Today’s article will incorporate some terminology from the sport of football. Are you ready?

God never intended for any generation to be static. Each generation is to bring forth an increased demonstration and revelation of God’s Kingdom. The highest spiritual place of one generation is to be the hand-off point of the next genration. This pattern can be observed from the passing on of mantles: Moses passed his mantle on to Joshua; Elijah to Elisha; David to Solomon; and Jesus to us. Everyone on the receiving end would employ the impartation to overcome and occupy their inheritance from God.

Throughout biblical history, we see that the single greatest factor that determined success was faith-filled obedience to the revelation of the Lord and His commands. In the absence of a clear hand-off, some generations have come forth without the benefit of seeing and experiencing God’s power. In those generations, the people were easily given over to the “gods” of the land. Such was the case of the ‘post-Joshua generation’. After the days of Joshua and the elders who outlived him, another generation arose; a generation that “did not know the Lord nor the work which He had done for Israel”. They did not have the benefit of the experiences of the past generations. Added to that, they were born into a time of relative blessing and prosperity in the promised land. Even though the enemy had not been totally driven out, times were good. This generation did not have to fight, sacrifice, or lend themselves to danger. They enjoyed blessing simply by birth. Without having to depend on the Lord to the degree prior generations had to embrace, this generation was easily amused and given over to the seductions in the land and to the beliefs of enemy occupants.
