Previously, we read from the Gospel of John, Chapter 14, verse 27, that Jesus said He would leave His peace AND give us His peace. Just to follow up a little, He left His peace because He left earth to return to the right hand of the Father in heaven. And aren’t you glad that He gave us His peace as well? In the world today, there appears to be anything but peace. However, we have the promise of Jesus (Who does not lie) that He would give us His peace. The only way to have this peace that passes understanding is to believe and receive: believe that Jesus is the Way to eternal life, the Truth, and the Life; then, receive Him in your heart as the Son of God, Who raised Him (Jesus) from the dead; and, then confess with your mouth about what you have believed and received.

Colossians 3:15: “Let the peace of God rule in your heart …”. The word rule here was used in ancient times to describe the umpire or referee who presided over and judged athletic competitions. The Apostle Paul used the word to tell us that the peace of God can work like an umpire or referee in our hearts, minds, and emotions. When we allow His peace to ‘rule’, our emotions will be kept under the control of that divine peace as it rules in our hearts. If you feel overwhelmed by problems or emotions, just stop a moment; deliberately set your heart and mind on Jesus and the Word of God. And let the peace of God act as referee in your emotions and decisions.

With that, I’ll leave this topic to address others in the days to come. Peace to you all. Amen.
