Visualize, if you will, living in TOTAL darkness. Imagine stubbing your toes, bumping in to things with your nose, walking slowly with hands extended to feel for unseen objects, going who knows where – I mean, if it’s TOTAL darkness, you won’t be able to even see where you were going, nor for what – couldn’t see anything anyway. It would be kind of hopeless, right?
Well, aren’t you glad God was aware of that exact scenario. So, even before mankind was on the earth, He took measures for us to be able to see. He spoke, ” Let there be light “, according to the Book of Genesis, chapter 1, verse 3. Want to know what I believe? How fast is the speed of light? Well, the universe is still expanding at that speed, because no where are we told that God ever said, “Light STOP”. After God took care of our ’seeing dilemma’, He went on to create day and night, a firmament (Heaven), dry land (earth), grass, herbs and their seeds, fruit trees, the sun, the moon, the stars, fish, birds, cattle, creeping things, beasts, and, finally, mankind, in His own Image and Likeness.
Wow! Want to know what God, Who is a Spirit, looks like? Look in a mirror. We look a lot like God, only He’s more handsome and beautiful! We have body parts like He does – arms, legs, torso, etc., and we perform the same functions He does – seeing, hearing, smelling, feeling, tasting, thinking, talking, etc., etc. We are capable of loving like He loves, giving, oops .. I won’t go there. I could continue on this subject/explanation forever, but we already have the Bible. So I’ll limit my writing to this article, but encourage you to read God’s written Word – the Bible – so we can get to know Him, not as the ‘man upstairs’, Who carries a big club waiting to whack us when we mess up and get out of line, but as a loving Father, Who is more concerned about EVERYTHING we do than we are. As my pastor says, “He loves you (me), He likes you (me), He wants more of you (me).”
